These are the corrosion tests to be applied to the metal parts of the instruments made entirely of stainless steel or metallic coated material used in the medical field and medical devices containing parts made of this material in their structures.
This includes determination of resistance to autoclaving, corrosion and thermal exposure in surgical and dental instruments. Corrosion tests are also performed on intravenous catheters provided in sterile condition and designed for single use.
Corrosion analyses are performed according to the following standards.
TS 5172 EN ISO 13402 – Surgical and dental hand instruments — Determination of resistance against autoclaving, corrosion and thermal exposure
TS EN 1618 Catheters other than intravenous catheters – Test methods for common characteristics
BS EN ISO 10555-1:2013 Intravascular catheters — Sterile and single-use catheters — Part 1: General requirements
