Food contact materials made of plastics form an important part of EC Regulation No: 1935/2004 and the Turkish Food Codex Communique on Food Contact Plastic Materials and Articles (Communique No: 2019/44).

Upon entry into force on May 1, 2011, EU Regulation (EU) No: 10/2011 defined a set of specific requirements for plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.

The Plastics Regulation sets out requirements for the substances that may be used in production, conformity tests and the issuing of a Declaration of Conformity.

List of authorised substances (monomers, additives, production aids, etc.).
Commission Regulation (EU) No: 10/2011 contains a comprehensive list of substances that can be used in the production of plastics for food contact. The list also includes information on how the substances can be used and whether there are specific requirements such as migration limits or limits on residual content.
